Short answer
Under article 217 of the Labour Code, the annual basic labour leave lasts at least twenty-one calendar days.
Additional leave
Under article 220 of the Labour Code, the employee gets additional annual leave of two calendar days for every five years of work in one organisation or industry. The total additional leave is not more than eight calendar days.
So an employee with 5 years of service gets 23 days, an employee with 10 years gets 25 days, and an employee with 20 years or more gets 29 days.
Splitting the leave
The employee and the employer can agree to split the leave into parts. At least one part must be not less than 14 calendar days. This rule keeps the real purpose of the rest.
What to watch in practice
- 21 days is the minimum. A collective agreement or a labour contract can set more.
- Some categories of employees get extended leave.
- The employer pays money compensation for unused leave at dismissal.
